New Jersey National Guard Photograph Collection and Warren G. Holmes's Scrapbook

This database indexes 1,039 photographs collected by the New Jersey National Guard. The photographs range in date from the mid-19th century through the 1980s, with the majority (759 images) taken before 1945. The database also includes the full contents of Warren G. Holmes's Scrapbook (274 images), created by him while serving with the Essex Troop before and during the Mexican Border War, ca. 1915-1916.

The entire database may be searched using a combination of text search fields, location, subject headings, and earliest and/or latest year.

The images are also browsable by collection, historical era, and main subject headings.

Highlights include: Warren G. Holmes's Scrapbook; 192 Regimental Portraits; 279 individual or dual portraits; 31 aerial photographs and 76 photographs of historic aircraft; 108 images taken before or during World War II (ca. 1939-1945), with an additional 333 images taken during the interwar period (ca. 1919-1939); and over 200 images taken at the National Guard Training Center at Sea Girt, including 58 images of the Governor's Cottage and other landmark structures at the center.
